  • Stay calm and check for injuries on yourself, passengers, and others involved.

  • Call 995 immediately if anyone is injured or requires medical assistance.

  • Turn on your hazard lights and, if it’s safe, move vehicles to the side of the road to avoid further danger.

  • Take clear, wide-angle photos of all vehicles involved, showing:

    • Damage to each car

    • License plates

    • Road conditions and surroundings (e.g. skid marks, traffic lights)

  • Also take close-up shots of damage and any important details.

  • Once documented, move vehicles to the roadside (if minor accident and safe to do so).

Collect and verify these details from all involved parties:

  • Full Name & NRIC

  • Valid Driver’s License (check name, expiry date)

  • Vehicle License Plate Number

  • Mobile Contact Number

  • Insurance Company & Policy Number

📸 Pro tip: Snap photos of their driver’s license and insurance certificate to avoid errors.

Record Key Details

  • Write down or note:

    • Date, time, and exact location of the accident

    • Make and model of all vehicles involved

    • Contact details of any witnesses (very helpful for disputes)

Make a Police Report (Proceed to Step 6 if Unsure)

You must file a police report within 24 hours if:

  • There are injuries or fatalities

  • The accident involves foreign vehicles, government property, cyclists, or pedestrians

  • It’s a hit-and-run

  • Any vehicle is not drivable

🚨 Insurer Requirement:
Even for minor accidents, you must report the incident to your insurance provider within 24 hours or by the next working day, or risk losing your right to claim.
